A strategic plan for a holistic restart for Santorini and the Cyclades was prepared by the Chamber of Cyclades. The plan was requested by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during his visit to Santorini.

According to an announcement by the Chamber, the plan provides for the formation of a multidimensional framework of actions that will ensure the resilience of the islands against natural phenomena, utilizing good international practices. In particular, it refers to the crisis management strategies implemented in countries such as Italy and Iceland, where volcanic and seismic activities do not disrupt daily life and tourism, thanks to updated action plans and systematic response measures.
Five critical axes of intervention
The proposed plan is based on five central axes:
- Security and resilience of infrastructure through strengthening civil protection structures.
- Supporting tourism with targeted promotion and communication actions.
- support for local businesses, with an emphasis on small and medium-sized enterprises.
- Securing workers and maintaining employment.
- Improving healthcare on the islands, in order to ensure the adequacy of infrastructure and personnel.
Need for Coordination and Targeted Promotion
The plan emphasizes the need to appoint a special coordinator, who will report directly to the Prime Minister and ensure good cooperation between the ministries involved, the local government, and the productive entities.
At the same time, the Cyclades Chamber proposes the immediate preparation and implementation of a comprehensive communication plan of international scope, with the aim of enhancing the sense of security, restoring the image of the islands, and highlighting their comparative advantages.
Support from the Ministry of Tourism
The announcement concludes with a reference to the statements of the Minister of Tourism, Olga Kefalogianni, during her recent visit to Santorini, which are within the same strategic framework and support the need to implement the proposed actions.
