An explosive increase of 15%, more than double the increase in non-resident arrivals, was recorded in travel receipts in the country in July, compared to July 2024.

According to the Bank of Greece’s Balance of Payments for July, travel receipts amounted to 4.52 billion euros compared to 3.93 billion euros in the corresponding month of the previous year, with a difference of 591 million euros.

In the same month, an increase in non-resident traveler arrivals was observed by 6.4%.

Consequently, the receipts for the first seven months of 2025 reach 12.2 billion euros, up 12.5% compared to the corresponding seven months of 2024.

Arrivals of non-resident travelers during the first seven months increased by 2.6%.

The disproportionately higher increase in receipts compared to the increase in arrivals suggests an increase in traveler spending, due either to more expensive services or to higher-income tourism.

According to a non-paper by the Ministry of Tourism, “recent data clearly demonstrate that qualitative improvement prevails over quantitative expansion. The significant increase in tourism revenues, as opposed to the number of arrivals, confirms the effectiveness of our strategy. The increased expenditure per visitor strengthens the resilience of the sector, reduces dependence on the volume of arrivals and creates solid foundations for economic stability and the strengthening of the country’s balance of payments.

In a particularly unstable international environment, full of geopolitical and economic challenges, Greek tourism is proving its resilience and its potential. The successful implementation of the Ministry of Tourism’s strategy reinforces the belief that tourism is a decisive driver of growth and one of the main pillars of the national economy.”
